Qi

So what is this Qi ? Or Chi ? and gong ? Or Qigong or Chi Kung ?

When you get really excited about something or really afraid then you feel a bodily reaction. You feel very warm, like your body is glowing. That is Qi. In the western world we say the blood is rushing to my head or more scientifially a shot of adrenaline.

This energy boost as you could also call it is initiated from inside the body but controlled by the mind.

So in Qigong we say “Qi follows the mind”

Qi = lifeforce(life energy)

Gong = practice

Qigong practice

We practice Qigong to keep the Qi flowing through the meridians of the body. Meridians can be thought of channels where Qi flows through in the body. We say that in the end every cell or smallest part is Qi.

Qigong is about relaxation and tranquility. These are the fundamental requirements for all Qigong practice

To practice wih Qi is to first calm down. Stand still and observe. Look inside and realize that body and mind are Qi. Just like the world around you. As far as the universe. Then you start to practice with the intention that everything is Qi

In more detail Qigong practice is about acceptance, non-duality, the power of relaxation, unity with all-encompassing, softness, openess, discovery of true self in the greater perspective

Wherever you stand in life, Qigong can be supportive. A helping hand.

To put this in perspective of daily life Qigong helps to maintain balance. Balance between the outer world and our inner world. We tend to live our lives with an outward focus for the things that we do in our daily lives like work, daily routines, make plans, socialize with others. This makes life enjoyable and there is nothing wrong with that. But in Qigong we try to find the balance between that outer world and the inner world. We do this because life can be (very) energy consuming. And when it comes to running out of energy it often leads to physical or/and mental conditions. Our bodies and mind are a world too and need to be nourished with fresh new energy(Qi). So with qigong practice we take time to focus and give care and attention to that inner world. And harmonize it with the outer world. The nature, people, universe or whatever the environment is that surrounds you.

Qigong is an old treasure from ancient China to practice physical and mental wellbeing. Become in harmony with nature. Discover your own true nature.

You discover the self healing potential of body and mind by practicing Qigong. This can be as simple as not feeling well before practice and feeling completely different afterwards.

Some of the effects of Qigong practice:

  • Calms the body and mind
  • Strengthens the bodily health
  • Repairs and regulates the nervous system
  • Stimulates blood circulation
  • Reduce breathing cycles

Dao

Qi springs from the Daoist art of healing. Which is based on research of lifeforce. The lifeforce that causes life to live. This research on lifeforce created a complete selfhealing system. Which is Qigong, acupuncture, Chinese healing herbs, Chinese healing massage. The teachings of Daoisme spring from works created by Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. The teachings on the state of origin and emptiness. Qi is a central part in this. One meditates on clearing the head from the train of thoughts and refine Qi in the body. One concentrates on Qi on the lower abdomen. The source of lifeforce. Qi softens the ego, which opens the connection with the orignal mind. Aware of and sensitive to the flow of life energy. Move in the direction of balance and harmony. Healing is implicit to this life philosphy. Further daoist teachings go as far as where freedom of human beings is in uniting with universal oneness. Then immortality is found and where death is just the the returning to the source of universal oneness.

Qigong practice

All information here is based on the system or style of Zhineng Qigong and Zhengti Qigong. These hold the theory that everything is Universal Qi. You interact and merge with the nature and empty space around you. This is the base of the practice. Other forms or styles of Qigong focus more on yin/yang or meridians of the internal body only.

Illness, discomfort, chronic pains, modern life diseases you name it are treated as a disharmony of Qi in the body. If Qi flows in harmony in and through the body illnesses are much less effective. If at all present. With Qigong you work on the selfhealing power of body and mind. In harmony with your inner nature. Qigong excercise is moving in meditation. There is no physical workout in Qigong. Qigong is about relaxation. In a relaxed state Qi can flow happily through the body.
